ABC Bay vs Salang Bay

Air Batang Bay (aka ABC)

ABC Bay on Tioman Island
Air Batang on Tioman

ABC or locally known as Kampung Air Batang is usually the 4th ferry stop. It’s a long  stretch of tranquil beach a few kilometers north of the main village Tekek.

This is the location of our headquarters and also our Tioman Dive Resort. It’s only a short 3 minute walk until you come to our dive shop, pool, resort and bar.

ABC is a quiet place where travellers can find small resorts offering a variety of room categories ranging from backpacker-style fan rooms to our luxury executive rooms.

There’s only a small concrete path going along the bay, which is just wide enough for the local motorcycles with their sidecars.

The beach north of the jetty isn’t great for sun bathing as it’s a bit rocky. But it’s fantastic for snorkelling and diving.  There’s a shallow housereef right in front of our dive shop and if we dive a bit deeper we come to an artificial reef we call Ghost Town.

For the sun worshippers amongst us, at the far ends of ABC bay you can find a small, sandy beaches for sunbathing and swimming. The better choice though is to walk some 15minutes to the south-end of ABC where you find a lovely beach right next to Sunset Bar.

There are numerous restaurants in ABC offering local and western cuisine and at night time you can enjoy a sun downer at either of 5 different bars, including our own B&J Beach Bar.

Salang Bay

Salang Bay, Tioman
Salang Bay on Tioman Island

Salang is usually the last ferry stop and is the last village in the north. It’s here that B&J started back in 1986.

It is entirely different compared to ABC Bay. It’s much smaller so resorts, restaurants, burger stalls, mini markets and dive shops are literally next to each other.

This small and cozy bay is surrounded by a beautifully dense rainforest and blessed with a shallow lagoon, perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. Salang also has amazing shore dive opportunities.

The jetty is teeming in fish life, as are the southern house reef, the northern house reef and the remains of Salang Wreck.

The numerous resorts in Salang Bay offer rooms for all kind of budgets, from backpackers to those who prefer a more luxurious room right on the beach. The various restaurants offer western and Asian delights and you should surely not miss one of the tasty seafood BBQs.
