Getting There

We are located on Tioman Island in the state of Pahang. To get to us you have to take a ferry either from Mersing or from Tanjung Gemok, or if you have the budget you can fly directly to Tioman.

Depending on your package you either have to disembark at Air Batang Bay (aka ABC – usually the 4th ferry stop), or at Salang Bay (usually the last ferry stop.

 

From Kuala Lumpur to Tioman Island

By Bus to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

There are buses leaving directly from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok. The coaches depart several times daily from Terminal Bersepadu Seltatan (TBS).

Currently two companies operate buses between KL and Mersing (Transnasional and S&S International) and one operator between KL and Tanjung Gemok (Sanwa Express). The journey takes approximately 6 hours and costs between MYR 31.00 to MYR 45.00 per way.

Best way to book tickets is online, e.g. via one of the following sites or the coach operators direct website: www.easybook.com (Mersing and Tanjung Gemok), busonlineticket.com (Mersing) or catchthatbus.com (Mersing).

 

By Car to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

To Mersing (search “Mersing Jetty ” in Waze or Google Maps):

Take the North-South Highway direction Johor Bahru and exit at Air Hitam/Kluang (Exit 244).

Turn right at the traffic light after the Air Hitam toll (direction Kluang) and drive through the centre of Kluang. Mersing is sign-posted.

Once you reach Mersing turn left at the T-junction. About a kilometer further at the roundabout go straight (12 o’clock).

The jetty of Mersing will be on your left side after another few hundred meter drive.

This journey (drive time without stops) will take approx. 4 to 4 1/2 hours. Remember to be an hour before ferry departure in Mersing!

There are open air long-term car parks at the jetty in Mersing (approx. MYR 12.00/day).

 

To Tanjung Gemok (search “Tanjung Gemok Jetty” in Waze or “Terminal Feri Tanjung Gemok ” in Google Maps):

Option 1: Fastest route according to Waze/Google Maps is via Seremban and then overland via Kuala Pilah to Muadzam Shah. This journey (drive time without stops) will take approx. 4 1/2 hours.

Option 2: Drive via Mersing (see further above) but take the first exit at the Mersing roundabout (9 o’clock). Just keep going straight for another 40min and you will see Tanjung Gemok jetty on your right after crossing the bridge. Total duration about 4 1/2 to 5hrs.

Option 3: Drive via the E8 highway to Kuantan, then via Muadzam Shah and come from the north to Tanjung Gemok. This will take some 4 3/4 to 5 hrs.

Remember to be at least half an hour before ferry departure in Tanjung Gemok! There is a gated open air long-term car park at the jetty (approx. MYR 12.00/day).

 

By Ferry from either Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

There is one ferry operator out of Mersing and a few operators out of Tanjung Gemok.

Mersing ferry times are bound by high tide and are changing daily. The ride from here to Air Batang (aka ABC Bay) or Salang Bay on Tioman takes some 2 1/2hrs.

Tanjung Gemok ferry times are more reliable and the journey to ABC or Salang takes around 2hrs.

 

Ferry out of Mersing:

The only operator is Bluewater Express (+60 7799 8518). We can gladly book tickets for you at MYR 90.00/return.

Marinepark Fee in Mersing is currently MYR 10.00 for locals and MYR 50.00 for foreigners (payable in cash to the Marinepark Authorities).

Once you have the tickets you will need to wait for the boarding pass counter to open and get your boarding pass. They will call the colour of your pass once the ferry is ready for boarding.

 

Ferries out of Tanjung Gemok:

Cataferry – a new ferry in 2017 that offers comfortable and reliable service. They have a normal class and “premium seats” and is run like an airline. We can only recommend it. Departs at 08:00am from Tanjung Gemok and returns from Tioman at 2:00pm.  Tickets can be booked online.

Gemilang (run by Bluewater Express) runs 2 or 3 times daily and costs MYR 35.00/way. Refer to the ferry itinerary link further below. You need to call them on +60 9413 1362 to make a reservation.

Dragon Star Shipping (+60 9413 1177) runs once a day at 10:30am from Tanjung Gemok and returns at 2:30pm from Tioman. Costs between MYR 35.00 to MYR 45.00 per way and can be booked online.

From Singapore to Tioman Island

By Bus to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

Buses leave directly from Singapore to Mersing and depart several times daily. It takes about 4 hours to get to Mersing or 4 1/2hrs to Tanjung Gemok and the bus tickets cost between SGD 30.00 to SGD 40.00 per way.

You can book tickets online, e.g. via easybook.com, catchthatbus.com, busticketonline.com or wtstravel.com.sg.

To make the most out of your trip to Tioman you should take the first available bus (around 6am). This way you will be able to catch a ferry around 11am from either Mersing or Tanjung Gemok and will reach Tioman in the early afternoon.

A new option for weekend travelers is to take the 11:59pm KKKL bus on Friday Night. You will reach Tanjung Gemok at around 4am and can rest before taking the 8am Cataferry over to Tioman.

KKKL also has daily return buses from Tanjung Gemok to Singpaore at 4:30pm and they will until the ferry has arrived so you can’t miss it (does not run on Wednesdays)

 

By Car to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

Take Woodlands check-point, drive through Johor Bahru and head towards Kota Tinggi. Just keep going straight, as this road will lead you directly to Mersing. The journey takes around 3 hours (depending on traffic).

Once you reach Mersing you’ll come to a roundabout where you have go straight (12 o’clock). The jetty of Mersing will be on your left side after another few hundred meter drive.

If you’re heading to Tanjung Gemok then take the first exit at the Mersing roundabout (9 o’clock) and just keep going straight for another 35min or so. You will see the Tanjung Gemok jetty on your right after crossing the bridge.

There are gated open air long-term car parks at both places – costs approx. MYR 12.00/day.

 

By Taxi to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

We can book a private taxi for you (max 4 persons). Pick-up can be at any location and at any time.

Singapore to Mersing: +/- 3hours, costs SGD 180.00-200.00 per way depending on the pick-up location.

Singapore to Tanjung Gemok: +/- 3 1/2 hours, costs SGD 200.00-220.00 per way depending on the pick-up location.

By Van to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok:

If you come with a larger group then we can organize a MPV, Mini Van or even a Coach for you. They will pick you up at any location in Singapore, day or night. The journey by van takes some 4 to 4 1/2 hours and the costs depend on the van size and your destination.  (between MYR 800.00 to MYR 1,200.00/way). Please contact us to book a van.

From Mersing to Tioman Island

Bluewater Ferries (+60 7799 8518 or 7799 4811) is the only operator who runs several speed ferries daily to the different villages on Tioman Island. Mersing ferry times are bound by high tide and are changing daily.

Tickets must be booked well in advance as there are limited seats available. Contact us if you want us to book tickets for you (MYR 45.00/way).

Your destination is either Air Batang (aka ABC – usually the 4th ferry stop), or Salang Bay (usually the last ferry stop). The journey takes some 2 to 2 ½ hours and we highly recommend to bring some warm clothing in your hand luggage as it might get cold inside.

Take note that after the ticket collection you will also need to pay a Marinepark fee directly to the Marinepark authorities at the jetty in Mersing in cash (currently MYR 10.00 for locals or MYR 50.00 for foreigners).

Once you have the tickets you will need to wait for the boarding pass counter to open and get your boarding pass. They will call the colour of your pass once the ferry is ready for boarding.

From Tanjung Gemok to Tioman Island

Tanjung Gemok is located approximately 40min north of Mersing and thanks to the large river mouth they do not depend on high tide to run ferries. There are multiple ferry operators:

Cataferry – a new ferry in 2017 that offers comfortable and reliable service. They have a normal class and “premium seats” and is run like an airline. We can only recommend it. Departs at 08:00am from Tanjung Gemok and returns from Tioman at 2:00pm.  Tickets can be booked online.

Gemilang (run by Bluewater Express) runs 2 or 3 times daily and costs MYR 35.00/way. Refer to the ferry itinerary link further below. You need to call them on  +60 9413 1362 to make a ticket reservation.
