Our History

B&J was established in 1986 as “Ben’s Diving Centre” and was run by our chairman Pak Karim and his sons Ben and Mark. As the business began to expand, Jean-Claude (aka JC) became a new partner and the name was changed to B&J (Ben and JC).

Martin, our Marketing/Sales Director bought over JC’s shares in 2003 and our company and reputation continued to thrive ever since.

Today we are one of the largest dive centres in Malaysia and as a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, we offer all courses from beginner to instructor level.

Between 2010 and 2014 we built and expanded our beautiful Tioman Dive Resort to offer our divers some of the nicest rooms in the whole of Tioman.

In 2017 we added to this another building with 4 air-conditioned Dormitory rooms that can sleep 5 persons each.

We place high value on protecting our environment and are a a GoEco operator, GreenFins Gold Member and Project AWARE award winner. We take care of our ocean environment through regular clean up activities plus have a strict no glove and no touch policy.

Our facilities are fully equipped with the best dive equipment available on the market (primarily Scubapro), which is serviced on a regular basis. The Bauer compressors provide the purest air available (we’re the only dive centre in Malaysia that’s Bauer Pure Air Certified) and we’re also the only dive centre on Tioman that provides Nitrox, Oxygen and Helium tank fills. Both our shops have a well-stocked retail section including PADI educational material, dive gear, t-shirts, accessories and tec diving equipment.

Our dive centre in ABC has a swimming pool, which makes the first step into scuba diving a bit easier for beginners. We’re also operating the B&J Beach Bar for you to relax after a happy day of diving.

Our Location

Our Dive Centre, Tioman Dive Resort and B&J Dormitory are located in Air Batang Bay on Tioman Island.

Our dive boats

BJ1 aka Hammerhead

BJ1 is a 40 foot Wave Ryder speedboat, powered by twin 300HP four stroke engines. It brings us with up to 16 divers and crew in just minutes to any dive site around Tioman.

The boat is equipped with VHF radio, GPS, life vests, Oxygen and Medic First Aid kit.

BJ2 aka Mako

BJ2 is the same hull - a 40 foot Wave Ryder speedboat, powered by twin 300HP outboard engines. We decided on two of the same boats as they're spacious and reliable.

These are some of the largest speedboats run by any dive operator in Malaysia

Our Hotel & Dormitory

Tioman Dive Resort aka TDR

We built Tioman Dive Resort (TDR) between 2010 and 2014 to provide upper class accommodation to divers and non-divers alike.
The resort will be extended in 2025/2026 with more rooms and later on with 2 swimming pools for hotel guests and dive training.

BnJ Dormitory

Originally built for our long term Divemaster and Instructor trainees, BnJ Dormitory has become an affordable place to stay on Tioman for travelers from all over the world.
